Man steals vehicle with children ages 2, 6 inside, Orange County deputies say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County man has been arrested for stealing a vehicle with two children inside, Orange County deputies said.

The carjacking happened at 8 a.m. Friday at the 7-Eleven at 6970 Central Florida Parkway.

The children's father told deputies that he was part of a group heading for Disney when he stopped at the 7-Eleven. He was standing by his car talking to friends when  a man jumped into the car and took off with the man's daughters, ages 2 and 5, inside, deputies said.

The father said he jumped onto the hood of his car to stop the driver, deputies said. The father fell off the vehicle and a witness called 911 to report the carjacking.

Dispatchers received a call a few minutes later about a collision at the Wawa gas station at Central Florida Parkway and International Drive, and deputies determined that the incidents were related.

"I heard the sound the car crashed in," said witness Andi Turner.

The children were found unharmed in the vehicle, deputies said.

"Some seconds later, the little girl opened the door on the backside, coming out screaming, and the lady was running to them," said Turner.

Donovan Campbell, 27, was arrested after he was found hiding in a bathroom at Publix, deputies said. He is charged with kidnapping and carjacking.

Campbell was arrested before in 2006 for with murder, possession of a firearm and aggravated battery, Channel 9's Angela Jacobs uncovered.
