Manatees released back into wild

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Members of the SeaWorld Rescue team were on hand Friday morning to help release two rehabilitated manatees into the Indian River in Port St. John.

The manatees will be released near the power plant so the water will be warm despite Central Florida’s current cold front.

The SeaWorld rescue team put trackers on the manatees to make sure they don’t end up in freezing waters.

“It allows us to do medical assessments, check on the animals and track where they’re going,” said a member of the SeaWorld rescue team.

Rescue teams members say they hope it will be easier for the manatees to find wild manatees to swim with since they’ll all be looking for warmer waters.
