Marion County undersheriff Dan Kuhn resigns amid extramarital affair allegations

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Dan Kuhn has resigned as Marion County undersheriff Thursday morning, according to a release by the sheriff's office.

Sheriff Ed Dean said Kuhn was previously placed on unpaid leave, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, into allegations relating to an extramarital affair to which he admitted.

Kuhn is currently running for Marion County sheriff.

"In view of the resignation of Dan Kuhn from the very office he seeks to be elected, coupled with admission of the extramarital affair, which is at the center of the very serious pending allegations, I believe it would be impossible for Dan Kuhn to effectively lead the sheriff’s office in accordance with its established core values.  Therefore, I am calling for Dan Kuhn to do the right thing and immediately withdraw as a candidate in the Sheriff’s election," said Dean.

Sheriff Ed Dean said he accepted Kuhn's resignation.
