Markeith Loyd bit pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, before killing her, affidavit says

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff's Office released more information Wednesday about the details surrounding the killing of Sade Dixon, Loyd's ex-girlfriend.

Markeith Loyd, 41, is accused of killing Dixon on Dec. 13 outside her family's home in Orange County and severely injuring one of her brothers.

Witnesses to the shooting identified Loyd almost immediately to detectives, and said that he was the one who shot and killed Dixon.

"There should not be a problem with the state proving these homicides beyond and to the exclusion of every reasonable doubt. Really, the only question's going to be: What's the appropriate penalty? Life or death?" WFTV legal analyst Sheaffer said.

Loyd had been on the run since the killing of Dixon and was accused of shooting and killing Orlando Lt. Debra Clayton in a Walmart parking lot on Jan. 9.

Loyd was arrested Tuesday night after a more than week-long manhunt. He was first taken to a nearby hospital for his injuries related to his arrest before he was taken to the Orange County Jail.

Dixon was two months pregnant at the time of her death, investigators said.

Witnesses said that on the night of the shooting, they overheard Dixon arguing with Loyd outside the home, and moments later, heard gunshots. When the witnesses rushed to her aide, they said Loyd was running toward his vehicle and fired shots back at the home.

Witnesses told investigators the couple had dated a couple of months and Dixon lived with Loyd up until Dec. 10. Dixon told family members that she got into a fight with Loyd and he bit her on the shoulder, investigators said. She later had to go the doctor to get a tetanus shot, investigators said.%

Detectives said Dixon was shot with a .40 caliber, but they found a 9 mm at the scene that had not been fired.

Loyd faces two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of attempted murder and one count of unlawful killing of an unborn child.

Loyd has not been charged in connection with the killing of Clayton. Police said charges in that case are pending.

Three people were arrested and charged with knowing information about Loyd's whereabouts, but not reporting it to investigators.

Loyd remains at Orlando Regional Medical Center. He will be booked into the Orange County Jail without bail when he is released from the hospital.
