Missing child dies after being found in Orange County retention pond

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 2-year-old boy died after being found in an apartment complex retention pond Tuesday, according to Orange County sheriff's officials.

Investigators said deputies responded to reports of a missing, endangered child at the Emerald Villas Apartments on Cholla Way around 1 p.m.

According to investigators, a neighbor and an apartment complex worker found the child in a fenced-in pond.

Investigators said the two started CPR on the child, and when Orange County deputies arrived, they took over.

The child was transported to Florida Hospital South, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators have not released the child's name. The Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating the child's death.
