Mothers deliver petitions to Orlando mayor to keep 'open carry' of guns illegal

ORLANDO, Fla. — A group of mothers wants to keep open carry of guns illegal, and they're asking Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer to help them do it.

Two of the mothers brought a petition carrying more than 25,000 signatures to his office Thursday.
They also dropped off comments from potential vacationers living outside of Florida, saying they might not visit Orlando if open carry becomes legal.
The mothers said the proposed gun legislation could be bad for business in Orlando.
The legislation will be decided at the state level, not at City Hall in Orlando.

It could have an impact on tourism, and that's why the mothers want Dyer to weigh in.

The group called MomsRising is asking Dyer not to back a bill that would allow open carry in Florida.

Instead, the group would like him to take a stand against the proposed legislation.

MomsRising said it defends families and the tourism industry in Central Florida.

"Best case scenario, I would like to see this go away. We don't need this on the books here in Florida. It's not good for families, and it's not good for our economy," said Sili Recio of MomsRising.

Dyer was not in his office when the documents were delivered.
