National Beach Day: SeaWorld releases rescued sea turtle at Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — SeaWorld Orlando celebrated National Beach Day Wednesday by releasing a rescued loggerhead sea turtle at Daytona Beach.

The 175-pound turtle required four team members to help lift it to be released into the Atlantic Ocean.

The release was part of SeaWorld’s ongoing effort to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need.

SeaWorld along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee has rescued almost 2,000 sea turtles since 1980.

The company has rescued more than 30,000 animals throughout its 50-year history.

Radiographs, antibiotics and therapeutic treatments are among the techniques SeaWorld uses to rehabilitate sea turtles.

The company encourages beachgoers to be mindful of their environmental impact as they head to the beaches during Labor Day weekend.
