VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County will celebrate the opening of a new section of the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop next month.
The county will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Sept. 9 at West Highbanks Road and Donald E. Smith Boulevard in DeBary.
The new 1.3-mile paved trail runs along Donald E. Smith Boulevard from Highbanks Road to DeBary Plantation Road.
The $1.23 million project closes a gap in the Spring-to-Spring Trail and was funded by SUN Trail and the Florida Department of Transportation.
Two community bike rides will begin at 7:30 a.m. ahead of the ceremony.
Once complete, the Spring-to-Spring Trail will span 27.2 miles and serve as part of the planned 260-mile St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop.
