Open warrant? Turn yourself in, Osceola County deputies say

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday allowed individuals with non-violent misdemeanor warrants to surrender to law enforcement and have their cases adjudicated in a safe, non-hostile environment.

The event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., was held at the Kissimmee Civic Center and 52 people turned themselves in, the sheriff's office said.

Participants include the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court, Osceola County Government, the Osceola County Corrections Department, the Osceola County Clerk of Court, Judicial Correction Services, the Public Defender's Office, the State Attorney's Office, and the Kissimmee and the St. Cloud police departments.

Officials said the event is not an amnesty program, but rather could offer participants special considerations from the court, including reduced fines, probation requirements or new court dates as an alternative to incarceration.

Participants are asked to bring valid photo identification. Weapons and children are not permitted at the event.
