Orange County deputies, Orlando man save pit bulls left on road

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two stranded and injured pit bulls are in good hands thanks to two Orange County deputies and an Orlando man who stumbled upon them in the middle of the road Wednesday morning.

The dogs were found at about 4:30 a.m. near South Orange and Oakridge avenues.

One had been injured and both appeared frightened, deputies said.

Patrick Hennessey said in a Facebook post that he found the dogs on his way to work and praised the members of law enforcement "for all their help and compassion with these sweet animals."

One of the dogs was suffering from an injured, bleeding paw, which the group was able to patch up until Orange County Animal Services arrived, Hennessey said.

"Between myself and the officers, we were able to wrap some gauze and my bandana around it and stop the bleeding," he wrote. "She was very grateful and then we gave her and (the other dog) a beef stick that I had in my backpack."

A passerby, only identified as Adam in a post on the sheriff's office Facebook page, saw the deputies tending to the animals and snapped some photos.

Adam sent the pictures to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office with a note saying, "The deputies stood by with the dogs until Animal Services arrived ... these pictures I took depict a loving nature from our deputies and will tug at any animal lover's heart strings. Thank you."

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office posted the pictures on its Facebook page.

The dogs are now at Orange County Animal Services where they are comfortable and being cared for, deputies said.

"We definitely formed a bond with these sweet creatures and hope they are reunited with their owners very soon, and safely," Hennessey wrote.
