Orange County man on trial for murder of ex-girlfriend

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County jury heard in court Monday what an accused killer told detectives about his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, before he was accused of killing her.

Kristofer Gould is on trial for murder of Jorgete Acarie's shooting death in her Dr. Phillips home in 2012.

Gould sat with his head down in court Monday as the jury heard what he told Orange County detectives after his murder arrest.

He told a detective how he tried to help Acarie get her life together and helped her give up her job as a stripper. He discussed how they met and how he helped her raise her sons.

Her 2-year-old son was found next to his mother’s body.

The couple had a violent history.

Acarie wrote in her petition for a domestic violence injunction that after breaking up with Gould she had been "harassed, stalked and battered on numerous occasions." She said Gould threatened to kill her and "calls and text messages to my phone hundreds of times a day and he comes to my house uninvited almost every night."

Since January of 2013, the state had intended to seek the death penalty against Gould if he was convicted of murder. However, a week ago, the judge took it off the table for reasons related to the state's new death penalty law.
