Orangutan caught after escaping enclosure at Tampa's Busch Gardens

TAMPA, Fla. — An orangutan's great escape Friday from her home inside Busch Gardens was short-lived.

The ape busted out of its habitat at about 6 p.m., shortly before closingt time, and climbed into the branches of a tree in the Stanleyville area of the park. Part of the park was shut down as a result of the escape.

And, possibly, for the first time, a tree inside the theme park drew a longer line than any of the rides.

Some guests snapped a quick picture or video on the way out, while others took to Twitter.

One Twitter user said, “The night I decide to finally go to Busch Gardens, an orangutan gets loose and the park is on lockdown."

Another tweeted, in part, "They just made us evacuate certain areas of the park because an orangutan is loose."

It’s not the first time Busch Gardens has had trouble containing its apes.

Two weeks ago, another orangutan got free in a non-guest area.

The park hasn't said how either orangutan was able to break out.

Officials released a short statement, saying in part, "The animal care team responded immediately and the animal is back safely and securely in the habitat without incident. The safety of our guests, employees and animals is our number one priority."

That's almost identical to the statement the park issued on June 16 after the other orangutan escaped.
