Man with gunshot wounds flags down ambulance on I-4

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County officials are investigating after a man with several gunshot wounds flagged down an ambulance on Interstate 4 Sunday afternoon.

Orlando police officers responded to the call around 3:10 pm Sunday.

Police say that one adult male had been shot at an unknown location and was attempting to drive himself to the hospital.

According to police, the man stopped on I-4 near John Young Pkwy. and was able to get the attention of a passing ambulance.

The man was immediately transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition and taken into surgery.

According to hospital officials, ORMC was placed on lockdown after the shooting victim was admitted.

Hospital representatives say that the lockdown was a precautionary measure because the possible shooter is still at large.

The lockdown was lifted around 6:00 pm.

Because of his condition, the patient was unable to provide any details about how or where he was shot.

Traffic on I-4 was backed up near John Young Parkway for several hours due to the police activity.

The Orlando police have handed the investigation over to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
