ORLANDO, Fla. — On March 19, Orlando International Airport had a record 159,000 passengers walk through its doors.
Thanks to spring break travelers, this Saturday airport officials are expecting even more.
“We are anticipating more than 160,000 passengers in the terminal on Saturday,” Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Executive Director Phil Brown said. “That record number, combined with enhanced security measures, illustrates the need for passengers to arrive 2 to 3 hours early for flight processing.”
The number of passengers expected Saturday is the most in the airport’s history, and officials warned that serious traffic issues could affect fliers as they arrive and leave.
The airport and Orlando Police Department urged people picking up passengers from Orlando International to use the free cellphone lots at the north and south entrances.
“During peak travel times, there has been an increase in the number of cars pulled off to the side of the entrance roads, which impairs safety and traffic flow,” airport officials said in a release.
The north cell lot can accommodate 200 vehicles and has free wireless Internet, restrooms, flight display screens and a dog relief area, the release said.
Vehicles are not allowed to park curbside at Orlando International and will be subject to ticketing and towing, it added.
