Orlando International Airport: TSA showcases screening technology

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Transportation Security Administration on Thursday will showcase the technology it uses to screen the almost 42 million travelers who pass through Orlando International Airport each year.

The agency will give reporters a behind-the-scenes look at its security system Thursday afternoon. TSA gave Channel 9 a sneak peek ahead of the tour.

Agents use an inline checked baggage system to screen luggage for explosives.

Advanced imaging software generates an image of travelers as they enter a checkpoint.

A yellow box will appear on the screen if a potential threat is detected, prompting agents to conduct further screening.

Those who are deemed safe are shown a green light so they can proceed to their terminal.

Tourist Renee Oliver said she has traveled to Orlando four times this year, most recently for a Disney cruise.

Oliver said she doesn't mind waiting in the long lines at the airport security checkpoints.

"I don't have any problems with it," she said. "It makes me feel a lot safer when I'm flying."
