Orlando Police investigating break-in at Pulse nightclub

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Someone broke into the Pulse nightclub not even 24 hours after Orlando police and Florida Highway Patrol Troopers released the building back to its owners, according to Orlando police.

Police said the break-in happened Wednesday night, but the department would not release more information until a report is finalized.

One worker outside of the nightclub told Channel 9’s Jeff Deal police were investigating some sort of break-in.

Workers who were driving by Thursday morning saw the gate open and put a new lock on it.

The owners the nightclub, along with 15 workers, went inside the club Thursday around 9 and said they noticed someone had pried open the plywood that was covering one of the doors facing the east side. The plywood was nailed down, yet someone still managed to get inside, the owner said.

“It’s a little emotional right now. But it’s… it’s a bad thing, but you guys know that,” said Rosario Poma, owner of the Pulse nightclub.

Poma told Eyewitness News he’s disgusted and outraged.

“As far as I’m concerned, what they did was unspeakable,” Poma said.

The alarm and camera system wasn’t on when someone broke in, Poma said.

It’s unclear why someone would want to break into the building.

"Do you think they were trying to take picture or a publicity thing?" Deal asked Poma.

"I have no idea why somebody would… I have no idea why somebody would come to a place where such a tragedy took place. I just have no idea… why someone would do that," Poma said.

“Since June 12, we have seen the worst and best of human behavior. We are disappointed that someone felt compelled to violate the privacy of our beloved Pulse Night Club and the sacred place it has now become. We have faith in the Orlando Police Department and its’ investigation of this break-in. The club will continue to remain closed to the public as we work to plan the future of Pulse," said Barbara Poma, co-owner of Pulse nightclub.

Forty-nine people were killed and 53 others were injured at the nightclub June 12.
