ORLANDO, Fla. — The city of Orlando is calling on the public to help design a new flag.
Now through March 22, anyone can create and submit an idea for a new design on the city’s flag as part of the competition.
The city is asking that the flag be simple, use meaningful symbolism, have two or three basic colors, no lettering or seals and be distinctive or be related, officials said.
The city said the flag is a source of civic pride that unites residents and makes people more connected to their city.
The current flag was designed in 1980 through a competition sponsored by the Orlando Kiwanis Club and the Council of Arts and Sciences.
Ten designs will be selected and then voted on by the public, on the city’s website and at Orlando City Hall. The Flag Design Committee will determine the flag design.
