Ormond Beach woman accused of hitting, killing pedestrian while under influence

An Ormond Beach woman is behind bars after hitting and killing a pedestrian crossing the street late Friday while under the influence and leaving the scene, police said.

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Jessica Struthers, 25, was arrested after police said she hit and killed Charles Bofinger, 63 of Pittsburgh, who was crossing South Atlantic Avenue at Milsap Road around 11:15 p.m.

Officers arrived to find a body lying in the roadway and a witness described hearing a crash and seeing a white SUV with damage to the front leaving the scene.

Bofinger was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Around this time, officers received a tip from Struther’s boyfriend, saying she was involved in the crash.

Officers investigated and found her car matched the description of the one leaving the scene and damage to the front end connected her to the crash, officials said.

At the jail four hours after the crash, Struthers took a breath test and blew at 0.105 blood alcohol level, according to her arrest report.
