Oviedo teen's death considered suspicious, deputies say

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Circumstances surrounding the death of a 16-year-old boy who was hit by a van has been ruled suspicious by Seminole County deputies.

Investigators said Chris Johnson was hit by a van at 7 p.m. Saturday on Harrison Street and Chinaberry Avenue in Oviedo, near the Oviedo Sports Complex.

Investigators said the driver ran away after the incident, but they’re not calling the case a hit-and-run.

A person of interest has been identified in the case, deputies said.

“It’s not just hurting him. It’s hurting everybody around us, because we lost somebody out here (that was) great, for nothing,” neighbor Shante Rouse said.

Rouse said Johnson had recently moved to the neighborhood in Oviedo and often kept to himself.

Now she is asking the community to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of Johnson’s killer.

“We need justice. That's what we need. We need to come together and figure out who did this to him because he don't deserve that at all,” Rouse said.
