Palm Bay man involved in police shooting identified by girlfriend

PALM BAY, Fla. — The man shot and killed by police in Tuesday's Palm Bay standoff was identified by his girlfriend.

The man's girlfriend, who asked to remain nameless, said it was Dimitri Corcino, 38, a security specialist and Army veteran with extensive military and law enforcement training.

In the 911 call to police, the caller can be heard saying that Corcino was threatening to shoot them. The caller said he seemed to be aggravated by the construction on her property.

The caller said Corcino said to call the cops and he'd shoot them too.

Corcino's girlfriend said he suffered from mental health issues, including schizophrenia and PTSD. She said she didn't have the chance to talk to him and try and save his life either.

"I was robbed of any chance at making the situation better," she said.

Police said Corcino was shot once by Cpl. Jason McCoy after Corcino exited his home with a loaded handgun.

Corcino has been arrested before for resisting, disorderly intoxication and DUI. There was also an aggravated battery arrest in South Florida in 2014, but no action was taken in that case.
