Speaking in Kissimmee, Pence said Hurricane Maria caused an unprecedented amount of damage in Puerto Rico.
"Truth is, Hurricane Maria was a historic storm with extraordinary damage," he said.
He assured the crowd that the island would get the help it needs.
"We are with you," he said. "We stand with you and we will be with you every step of the way."
Orlando resident Jeanette Quinones was glad to hear Pence speak so emphatically about Puerto Rico during his visit.
"It's very important for the citizens of Puerto Rico to know that the president and the vice president care for them," she said.

Pence told the crowd that more than 11 million meals and 8 million liters of water have been delivered to Puerto Rico and much more will come in the future.

Kissimmee resident Camila Gomez said Pence's reassurance meant a lot to the Puerto Rican community.

"It gives them faith that the United States is going to help them out and do something for them and try to rebuild them," she said.
