ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two separate piles of goat carcasses and intestines continued to rot Saturday near an east Orange County subdivision and a vacant bank.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into who dumped three different piles of carcasses near Dean and Curry Ford roads, but the remains remain untouched at two of the three sites.
The owner of a nearby slaughterhouse told Channel 9 he’s not the one dumping the large quantities of dead animals and organs, and he said he has a box of receipts from the Orange County Landfill to prove it.
He said he hopes whoever is behind the mess stops dumping the dead animals because he fears his business will develop a poor reputation.
As flies swarm and the stench worsens, neighbors said they don't understand why no one is willing to clean up the mess.
“Let's get it cleaned up and worry about that process later," said Paul Bracero, whose home backs up to one of the dump sites. “Please stop. Don't do it again. It's a nice neighborhood. Clean up your mess."
Neighbors said a county subcontractor cleaned a third dumpsite that was discovered Tuesday, but they wonder why the remaining two sites continue to bake in the Florida sun.
