Police: 3 shot during Easter celebration at Melbourne park

MELBOURNE, Fla. — A man, a woman and a teenage boy were shot Sunday evening during a large Easter celebration at a park, the Melbourne Police Department said.

The shooting was reported shortly before 7:45 p.m. at the Lipscomb Park Community Center near Florida Avenue Northeast and Monroe Street, Melbourne police Cmdr. Heath Sanders said.

Almost 1,000 people were gathered at the park for a game of flag football and a barbecue when two men got out of a car and started shooting at the crowd, wounding three people, Sanders said.

Tyesha Robinson, 27, of Palm Bay, Ladrevious Pollard-Robertson, 24, of Melbourne, and Clinton Bryant, 17, of Melbourne were taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

"At first, it didn't seem real," witness Alexander Whitmore said. "We thought it was firecrackers. It was crazy."

Sanders said a motive for the shooting is unknown. An estimated 80 rounds were fired off during the incident, investigators said.

"It wasn't fair for everybody to have that happen and get their Easter ruined," Whitmore said.

The incident remains under investigation.

No other details were given.
