Police: Holly Hill man tries to shoot woman, hits bystander instead

HOLLY HILL, Fla. — A 27-year-old man was arrested Sunday, the day after he tried to shoot a 28-year-old woman, but instead hit a 40-year-old man, the Holly Hill Police Department said.

James Rainville tried to shoot his female roommate, but struck the man in his leg during an argument at about 9:15 p.m. at a home on South Flamingo Drive and Center Avenue, Holly Hill police Chief Stephen Aldrich said.

The wounded man was taken to Daytona Beach’s Halifax Health Medical Center to be treated for injuries that weren’t life-threatening, Aldrich said.

Investigators found three children crying in one of the home's bedrooms, according to a police report.

Officers said Rainville and his 36-year-old girlfriend, Angela Toole, were arrested Sunday morning during a traffic stop on South Nova Road near Madeline Avenue in Port Orange.

Toole was arrested as an accessory in the shooting because she drove Rainville away after the incident, police said.

“Both subjects have spoken with investigators and have implicated themselves in the shooting incident,” Aldrich said.

Rainville and Toole are expected to be booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail. %
