Police: Man asks to see $23K in jewelry, runs off with it

SANFORD, Fla. — A man asked a Zales worker if he could look at $23,000 in jewelry before running off with the merchandise, the Sanford Police Department said.

The theft happened Dec. 30 at the jewelry store at Towne Center Boulevard and State Road 46, near the Seminole Towne Center, police said.

"The subject asked to see the jewelry, and as the store employee was displaying it, he grabbed the jewelry and exited the store," the police department wrote in a Facebook post.

Officers said the accused jewelry bandit remains at large.
