Police: Man shot to death in Casselberry apartment with wife, children inside

CASSELBERRY, Fla. — A man was shot to death in Casselberry Tuesday night, police said.

Residents at the Carrington Park apartments reported hearing the peppering of gunfire, followed by gasps for help from inside one of the units, Casselberry police said.

Casselberry Police Department said they found Robert Arrocha, 33, dead on the back porch one of the units on the 400 block of Banyon Tree Circle, with no clue as to why he’d been shot or by whom. %

Police can’t say yet if the father of two was targeted or if it was a random killing.

“We’re trying to develop the leads to figure that out. It’s still a little fresh to tell for sure,” said Officer William Nas, of the Casselberry Police Department.

Casselberry police said they are seeking the public’s assistance to identify two persons of interest who might have information.

Persons of interest are described as two Hispanic men who were seen leaving the area in a white Kia Sol.

“This case is a priority for us, and it is possible the suspect or suspects may be known by someone in the community. So we are asking the community to come forward with any information that can help solve this homicide,” said Casselberry Police Chief Larry Krantz. “Any resident who saw or heard anything during the evening on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at about 21:30 hours, is encouraged to come forward with any information and speak with detectives.”

One resident told Channel 9 that when she heard the shots, she quickly got down on the ground.

“It sounded more like, ‘Prrrrat, prrrrat,’” she said. “I didn’t understand what was going on, I just was a little afraid. I was on the ground and I peeked out of the window and it was quiet, but then I heard, ‘Help me,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I think somebody is hurt.’”

When she saw Arrocha's apartment riddled with bullets, she called 911.

Investigators spent hours at the complex collecting and processing evidence, but did not release any information on a possible suspect in the shooting.

Arrocha’s wife and two children were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but were not injured, police said.

“It’s just a really sad situation because he’s always in the courtyard here playing with his little kids,” said a resident, who was only identified as Erika.

Police said they’ve been interviewing neighbors, but they haven’t said if anyone witnessed the gunman.

The victim’s mother, who asked not to be identified, told Channel 9 she doesn’t know why someone would kill her son.
