Police: Registered sex offender suspected in 6 sex crimes in Central Florida, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. — A 53-year-old Orange County sex offender was arrested this week in connection with numerous sex-related crimes across four Central Florida jurisdictions, the Orlando Police Department said.

James William Santiago Orengo, who also goes by Jose Rodriguez, was arrested at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office when he came in for his required registered sex offender check-in, investigators said.

Orengo, who is a transient, is a suspect in three Orlando Police Department investigations: two cases of indecent exposure and one count of lewd or lascivious exhibition, investigators said.

He is also a suspect in similar cases being investigated by the Winter Park and Altamonte Springs police departments and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, officials said.

“The victims have been all females, the youngest victim being 8 and the oldest being older than 60,” said Sgt. Tami Edwards, with the Orlando Police Department special victims unit.

The first case in Orlando was reported that on Sept. 9 at the Sheraton Suites on Augusta National Drive, the OPD said.

The mother of an 8-year-old girl reported a man exposed himself to the child at the hotel’s swimming pool, investigators said.

The second was reported on Sept. 12 at the Springhill Suites on Hazeltine National Boulevard.

The victim in that case told police that she had been working on a computer in the hotel lobby when a man exposed his genitals, officers said.

The third incident was reported on Dec. 16 at the Fairfield Inn on Augusta National Drive. A woman told police a Hispanic male exposed himself to her at the hotel pool.

Orengo was picked out of a photo lineup in each of the Orlando cases, investigators said.

According to state records, Santiago was convicted of sexual battery by force of a child under the age of 12 in 1989.
