Police: Restaurant, store burglarized in Baldwin Park

ORLANDO, Fla. — Thieves went on a destructive crime spree overnight in Baldwin Park, the Orlando Police Department said.

Investigators said someone broke into Chi Pan Asian restaurant and Planet Smoothie on New Broad Street.

Surveillance footage showed someone throwing a brick through the restaurant's front glass doors, walking through the shattered door and making a beeline for the cash register.

The burglar wasn’t as successful at Planet Smoothie, where the store’s door was damaged, but nothing was taken.

Owner Adam Bermudez told Channel 9 that the burglar made away with several hundred dollars and his sense of security.

“I have been here since 2004, and I have never had anything like this happen before,” he said. “[I feel] a little violated, but I know this is a part of doing business.”

It's unclear if the burglar in the Linda's La Cantina incident is connected to the Baldwin Park break-ins, police said.

Police said that although there hasn’t been a recent spike in crime in the area, detectives have reviewed the surveillance footage.

The burglaries continue to be investigated.

Business owners said they aren't taking any chances. They've replaced the glass in both of the front doors with laminate, which they believe will thwart future break-ins.
