Police: Suspects steal pickup truck, lead officers on 43-mile chase through Brevard County

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Several people were arrested on charges they stole a pickup truck early Friday in West Melbourne before leading officers on a 43-mile chase, the Melbourne Police Department said.

Officers began following the vehicle at East University Boulevard and South Babcock Street, police said.

Police threw stop sticks in front of the pickup, deflating two of the vehicle's tires, but the motorist continued driving northbound on South Harbor City Boulevard, officials said.

The Rockledge Police Department was asked to assist in the pursuit, and officers deployed stop sticks again.

The pickup came to a stop and the people inside ran from the stolen vehicle right in front of a Brevard County Sheriff's Office's precinct on Merritt Island, officials said.

Kalema Johnson, 16, Tywan McFatten, 18, and Javonne Williams, 19, were arrested in connection with the stolen vehicle and chase, investigators said.

The Sheriff's Office also assisted Melbourne police with the pursuit.
