Polk Co. judge, assistant face criminal charges

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A Polk County judge and judicial assistant who were recently both a part of a sex scandal are facing criminal charges.

Investigators say Judge Beth Harlan was arrested Thursday, because she knew time cards for her assistant Alisha Rupp were wrong, but signed off on them anyway.

Rupp was also arrested for turning in fake time cards and taking the paychecks.

In July, Rupp said she was fired from her job at the courthouse because she'd reported sexual misconduct.

Investigators say she was fired because of the fake time cards.
