Pulse survivor files petition against YouTube after ‘No shooting happened' video surfaces

ORLANDO, Fla. — A survivor of the Pulse massacre is taking legal action to clear his name and reputation, according to a court document.

A YouTube video clip is at the center of a legal petition by Pulse survivor, Angel Colon.

The clip that continues to make its rounds on social media and the Internet calls the shooting that killed 49 people and injured dozens, fake, saying "no shooting happened people.  Wake up."

Attorneys are pushing YouTube to turn over the name of whoever posted the video, saying it’s in violation of state wiretapping statutes and they want it removed.

The more than 10-minute-long clip that was posted a few days after the Pulse shooting has been viewed more than 54,000 times.

In an emotional interview two days after the nightclub attack, Colon detailed being shot several times and playing dead on the floor to prevent being shot again.

"Out of nowhere, you just hear a big shotgun," said Colon. "By the glory of God, he shoots toward my head but it hits my hand, and then he shoots me again and hits the side of my hip."

Colon is fighting to get the YouTube clip, which denied that the Pulse attack happened, removed.

Another problem is that a mystery person called Colon's hospital room, recorded the conversation and then posted what his attorney calls an "illegal and defamatory" video.

"Since the YouTube user used what's known as a proxy server, it's hard for the average person to find out who it is," said attorney Rodney Gregory, Esq.

Colon’s attorney said YouTube has access to the person's true identity.

Gregory said there's no excuse for someone taking to social media with lies.

"Don't think you can hide in social media, defame someone and get away with it. There are consequences," said Gregory.

According to the court document, the YouTube video lists “Truth Media Revolution” as the user’s channel, and the channel reflects a website called “Maxresistance.com” as the user’s website.

The document also said that Colon intends to pursue claims for damages against gunman Omar Mateen’s estate and Pulse nightclub.
