TAVARES, Fla. — Heavy rains and an equipment failure caused a Tavares police boat to sink Saturday.
Sgt. Ami Phillips Reynolds alerted the police chief Saturday evening about the sunken boat.
The Tavares Police Department said the boat's bilge pumps failed, letting the rain pool in the boat.
Channel 9 Meterologist George Waldenberger said Tavares received between 2 and 3 inches of rain around the city Saturday.
According to a Facebook post, the chief was good-humored about the incident, responding “#sinkemSaturday.”
