Reward increased for information about Orange County murder of Georgia woman

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The reward for information about a murder off Old Winter Garden Road in Orange County has been increased, deputies said.

Ethel McCarson's body was found dismembered about a week ago in a wooded area, deputies said.

Channel 9 learned that deputies are working with Eustis investigators because of similarities in the case of a body found there a year ago. Investigators haven't said that the two cases are connected, but some of the details are similar.

Police said a neighbor found Shelly Arnold's mutilated body in Eustis.

"Stuff like this maybe would happen once every 10 years. It's not really common for the Eustis area," Tavares resident Adam King said. "It was kind of scary because at the time, people could walk the streets freely, but when this happened, people were scared to be out after dark."

King said nothing has happened in the case and he hopes there are new developments so someone is caught.

Deputies increased the reward for information in McCarson’s murder to $10,000.

“If (Eustis police) can get any kind of assistance from another precinct, another PD, it would help them to solve this case. That would great,” King said.

King said a memorial for Arnold is a reminder that the family wants answers.
