Rollins College suspends all fraternity activities

WINTER PARK, Fla. — Rollins College announced Wednesday morning that it has temporarily suspended all fraternity life activities.

The school suspended activities after reviewing "student conduct concerns," including "high-risk behaviors," on behalf of all six fraternity chapters on campus until March 31, said Meghan Harte Weyant, the school’s assistant vice president for student affairs and dean of students.

Channel 9 found out students were involved in some type of incident Sunday night that led to a student’s hospitalization, but no details were released about what happened.

A spokesperson sent a heavily-redacted police report that said when they arrived to an off-campus apartment Sunday night, firefighters were preparing to take a person to the hospital.

Channel 9 confirmed at least one Rollins College fraternity is aware of the incident, but a spokesperson for Phi Delta Theta wouldn’t give specifics.

Administrators didn’t specify what the high-risk behaviors were, only saying that the decision was made for the “safety and well-being” of students.

The notice of the suspension was released late Tuesday.

During the temporary suspension, all chapter privileges will be denied and chapters won’t be allowed to conduct meetings or activities, Harte Weyant said.

School officials said they’ve begun meeting with each fraternity.

All Greek Week activities that were scheduled for the final week of March have been canceled, officials said.

Students will instead attend a summit aimed at aligning “organizational values and behavior with the college’s mission,” Harte Weyant said.

"I will be working closely with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, IFC and chapter presidents to determine a best plan of action to more closely align the vision and values of the fraternity experience with the academic mission of Rollins,” she said.

The suspension doesn't affect the school's sororities.
