Sanford police investigate if marijuana-laced candy is widespread problem

SANFORD, Fla. — Sanford police are investigating if marijuana-laced candy is becoming a widespread problem throughout the city.

On Thursday, a Seminole High School student was arrested after he allegedly gave a girl a drug-laced gummy candy and she got sick.

Police said they found two more of the candies in his possession.

“200 milligrams of THC per square. That’s a high concentration (and) very dangerous for anyone that consumes them, let alone if they get into the hands of a young child,” said Bianca Gillett of the Sanford Police Department.

According to the teen’s arrest report, a high school student called her father and told him she had eaten an edible and wasn’t feeling well.

The father called the school and a school resource officer eventually arrested the teen who allegedly had the drugs.

“We believe that they are coming from out of state and being shipped in. As to what state they are coming from, it’s still part of the ongoing investigation,” said Gillett.

Police said at least a dozen other weed-laced gummy candies sold around the community.

Police have turned the candied over to the city-county drug task force, which is investigating the case.%
