Seminole County Jail deputy under internal investigation resigns

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County Jail deputy who was at the center of an internal investigation has resigned, Channel 9 has learned.

Channel 9’s Karla Ray has been seeking answers about the investigation into Karli VanKleeck, 28, and learned that even though she has now resigned, the agency is still looking into allegations against her.

Officials would not say what the investigation is about, but confirmed that VanKleeck has worked at the jail during her time with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and the internal investigation will continue despite her resignation.

That may mean that the allegations are serious enough to go after VanKleeck’s law enforcement certification.

VanKleeck has worked as a detention deputy inside the John E. Polk Correctional Facility since becoming a trainee in May 2012.

She worked alongside her husband, who is also a deputy.

VanKleeck resigned on Friday, days after Ray began asking questions about an investigation into potential misconduct at the jail.

In her resignation letter, she wrote that her resignation would be effective immediately, saying, “I feel I can no longer work at the Sheriff’s Office with all the false allegations and rumors being spread because of this situation.”

No other details were released about VanKleeck’s resignation.
