LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The son of Rubye James spoke to Eyewitness News just days following the arrests of two men accused of killing his 92-year-old mother.
Wayne Solomon said he’ll never be able to walk back into the home where investigators said James was attacked and stabbed. She was found Wednesday buried in a shallow grave near Crosby Street and Snow Place in Leesburg, not far from her home and near the home of the accused killers, Joshua McClellan, 19 and Krystopher Laws, 21.
“You don’t do a wild animal like that you know. You don’t do that, you know,” Soloman said.
Solomon told Channel 9's Angela Jacobs that he believes more people were involved in his mother's death.
“I really believe in my heart there was more than two (suspects),” Soloman said.
McClellan's mother turned him into investigators on Friday and spoke to Eyewitness News about that decision and how her son did yard work for James.
As McClellan was hauled off to jail Friday, he told reporters and deputies he loved James and that he stole James' vehicle to take it for a joyride while he was looking for money to buy pot.
Solomon said he wants to focus on the memories he had with his mother and his childhood home.
“I mean, they can’t take my memories back, but still all that’s been dumped on, you know? You know?” Solomon said. “To me, it’s just been violated. It’s just been violated.”
Soloman said he’s planning a memorial for his mother this week in either Wildwood or Leesburg. Those are two areas where she taught for years and had many friends.
Both of the men are being held in the Lake County jail without bail, charged with first-degree murder.
