Police: Homeowner shoots, kills suspect during home invasion

HOLLY HILL, Fla. — Holly Hill police responded to a call of shots fired in the 200 block of 15th Street around 10 p.m. Friday.

When police arrived, they found 35-year-old Sanlee Alan Bennett of Palm Beach Gardens, dead in the front yard of a home with a gunshot wound.

Police said 53-year-old Kenneth Conley was eating on the front porch at 263 15th St. when Bennett and a second suspect approached.

Conley told investigators the two suspects began to beat him and used a stun gun on him before ordering him to open the front door.

The pair made their way to a bedroom where the homeowner, 62-year-old Jerry Stremovihtg, was staying.

Officers said Stremovihtg grabbed a .38-caliber revolver, firing several rounds and hitting Bennett.

Bennett made it to the front yard before falling down dead. The second person got into a car and drove away as Stremovihtg fired at least one round at the vehicle, according to the officer's report.

Conley and Stremovihtg were treated at Halifax Health Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

Chief Mark Barker said at this point it appears Stenmovihtg acted in self-defense and will not be charged, but he said the investigation is on going.
