VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Stetson University has added a new lightning warning system to ensure the safety of its students.
The system monitors electric currents in the air.
When it detects a lightning strike within 2 ½ miles from the school, it will sound a 15-second siren to alert everyone to head inside.
Then, three 5-second siren blasts will signal when the coast is clear.
