Suspect in fatal wrong-way DUI crash bonds out of jail

CASSELBERRY, Fla. — The man accused of killing two women in a wrong-way crash on State Road 436 in Casselberry turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday.

Terry Dinkins bonded out several hours later.

Dinkins is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and DUI with property damage.

Investigators believe the 64-year-old was drunk when he drove head-on into Brandi Cole and Silvia Barajas' vehicle in February. Cole, 39, and Barajas, 32, both leave behind children.

The crash happened on SR-436 near Lake Howell Lane about 2:30 a.m.

Dinkins suffered a concussion and was incoherent when police arrived at the scene, investigators said.

“I’m kind of upset it took as long as it did to get him arrested,” said Brandi Cole’s son, Christopher Kline, 23.

It took as long as it did because investigators had to wait for Dinkins’ blood-alcohol results to come back.

When Cole’s family got word of the arrest, they went to the jail and waited hours outside the release doors to greet Dinkins.

Kline said he just wanted to see Dinkins.

“I’m not happy, obviously,” Kline said.

Despite his grief, Kline said he can forgive Dinkins, but still wants justice for his mother.

“I can’t blame him for being drunk. The fact that he drove drunk is the bigger problem,” said Kline.

Dinkins bonded out shortly before 9:30 p.m.
