NOKOMIS, Fla. - A man drowned in the Intracoastal Waterway near Nokomis Beach while trying to retrieve a toy boat for a child.
Sarasota County Sheriff's officials say the 67-year-old man was with friends when he swam away to retrieve the toy on Wednesday afternoon. He got caught in the current and told friends he couldn't swim much longer. Then he went under water.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports rescue crews found the man's body around 4 p.m. The man's name hasn't been released.
