Take a sneak peek at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville resort in Osceola County

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Parts of Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville will begin opening in Osceola County later this year, but Channel 9's Jamie Holmes got an exclusive sneak peek at the resort.

The resort is being built along U.S. 192 near Animal Kingdom.

Holmes said even though it’s a resort by name, it’s more like an entire new town.

“You will think you’re in the Caribbean,” said Jim Bagley of Margaritaville Resort Orlando.

The $750 million investment spans 320 acres that will be home to 1,000 vacation rental homes, a new hotel, 300 timeshares, a 200,000-square-foot shopping plaza and a 45-acre man-made lake.

“(It's) a swimmable, chlorinated 3-acre lagoon with a sand bar in the middle,” said Bagley. “We expect to hold 2,000 to 2,500 people on a weekend.”

Margaritaville will also have a 12-acre water park.

"At full operation, we expect this resort to have nearly 4 million visitors throughout all the elements here,” Bagley said.

The resort will open in phases. The first of the rental homes will be available in the fourth quarter of 2017.The entire project will be complete by 2022.
