Tangled, hanging blue heron rescued from power line after Irma

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — A blue heron became tangled in a power line near Merritt Island during Hurricane Irma.

The blue heron was hanging from one wing when rescue crews arrived on State Road 520 near Kiwanis Island Park.

The blue heron was taken to a veterinarian.

"I let her know what's happening, so she's going to give him a full exam and see if there's anything that could be done," said Matthew Buice of Wild Florida Rescue.

Wild Florida Rescue officials said the blue heron’s wings were broken and that its recovery will not be easy.
