ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County teenager was arrested last week after deputies said he drove over 120 miles per hour on a suspended license.
Denis Josue Maldonado-Reyes pleaded not guilty to reckless driving charges. The 19-Year-Old was arrested for a driving-related offense while under investigation for his role in a deadly crash nearly a year ago.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, two people died after Maldonado-Reyes crashed into a Lynx van in November 2025 on Rock Springs Road in Apopka. State troopers said Maldonado-Reyes was driving 90 miles per hour during the crash, which was double the speed limit on the road.
Previously, Maldonado-Reyes told Channel 9 he wasn’t driving that fast, and the van swerved into his lane prior to the crash.
According to a spokesperson for the Florida State Highway Patrol, the state agency is waiting for evidence results from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to come back before starting work with the State Attorney’s Office. FDLE didn’t immediately answer Channel 9’s questions about their work on the case.
Regardless, Maldonado-Reyes’ arrest frustrates Edna McGrew. She told Channel 9 the November crash killed her grandma, Aida Maldonado.
“It’s hard like dealing with this, you know, her not being around,” McGrew said. “She didn’t die of being sick. She died because she was killed.”
She said her grandma loved music and recently attended a concert in Miami before celebrating her 94th birthday. McGrew said she’s concerned Maldonado-Reyes will kill more people.
“Who would give him a car? Who would let him use the car? And he’s a kid,” she said. “Does he have parents that care about him?… And he’s going to be free and probably kill somebody else because he doesn’t care, obviously.”
According to the criminal complaint, Maldonado-Reyes held a permanent resident card at the time of his arrest.
