Teen arrested after 14-year-old hit 5 times in Cocoa drive-by shooting

COCOA, Fla. — Cocoa police identified a gunman Wednesday in the drive-by shooting of a 14-year-old boy.

Investigators believe Adorian Ferguson, 16, opened fire Tuesday night at Carl E. Anderson Park near the 800 block of North Fiske Boulevard, after an argument with the victim.

“I don't know what to say.  A 14-year-old. That mother and father must be devastated,” said Cocoa resident Mary Barnosky.“I hope the young man lives. I'm going to pray for him.”

After the argument at a nearby apartment complex, Ferguson found the victim at the park and shot the teen five times, authorities said. The teen, who has not been identified, is hospitalized in stable condition.

“According to the witnesses, the suspect drove up there, rolled down the window, and the victim approached the vehicle immediately began shooting at him, and then fled the scene,” said Yvonne Martinez of the Cocoa Police Department said.

Ferguson was arrested at his home in Rockledge.

“It doesn't matter if you’re black, white, Spanish, purple, green; it's a matter of a life,” said Barnosky.

“I watch my kids. Some good people are coming over there, some bad people,” said resident Petchel Zidor.

He will face a judge on an attempted murder charge.

“It's always troubling when you have this kind of violence, and especially magnified when you have the victim and the suspect both so young,” said Martinez said.

Ferguson attends Rockledge High School. School officials said students charged with a felony receive an automatic 10-day suspension to an alternative learning site, and then the school will decide on formal discipline.
