Teen arrested after armed carjacking at Brevard County mall, deputies say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A 16-year-old boy was arrested after a daring mid-day carjacking at a Merritt Island mall, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim told investigators that she was in the Merritt Square Mall parking lot at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, when she was approached by a boy, later identified as Phillip Ramon Carroll Jr.

Carroll threatened the woman with a gun and forcibly took her car keys before driving off in her vehicle, investigators said.

Deputies spotted the vehicle driving west on State Road 520 and attempted to pull it over, but the teen continued on, the Sheriff’s Office said.

After a short chase, Carroll crashed in the area of West King Street and River Edge Boulevard in Cocoa Village, deputies said.

He got out of the vehicle and ran, but was captured a short time later, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Carroll was arrested and charged with carjacking with a firearm, aggravated fleeing and eluding with property damage, resisting arrest with violence, leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and violation of probation.

He was taken to the Brevard County Juvenile Detention Center.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 321-454-6640 or Crimeline, at 1-800-423-TIPS.
