That’s no rock: Air Force bomb squad called after land mines found on Florida beach

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. — A section of Florida beach was evacuated Thursday after residents found land mines in the area.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said residents found a mine against a sea wall in the South Beach area.

Deputies said a second device cap was brought back by roadway by one of the residents.

Some residents in the area were evacuated as a precaution as the St. Lucie Bomb Squad and Air Force Bomb Squad was called out to investigate.

The Air Force Bomb Squad removed both land mines without issues and they were taken to their base to destroy them.

Deputies said no injuries were reported and an all clear was given.

No details were giving as to where the mines had come from.

Deputies said anyone who finds possible suspicious items on the beach is asked to call 911.
