Theme park to replace 'for sale' Artegon Marketplace

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9's Jamie Holmes learned that another new theme park is considering coming to come to Orlando after he found out about a plan to sell the Artegon Marketplace, plus 70 acres of land on International Drive.

"We think more is more. We're excited about it. We think the I-Drive district and corridor can handle that kind of volume,” said David Hummer of Fun Spot America.

CBRE Orlando, the largest real estate company in the world, which is handling the deal, told Eyewitness News that a theme park is interested. Officials said a call for offers on the property will go out Nov. 15, but a deal could be struck before that.

CBRE Orlando also made a deal with Universal to buy 400 acres off I-Drive earlier in the year. Universal wanted that property so badly, it didn't wait for any other offers to come in.

The question is: Who's interested in this land?

Top contenders include Six Flags, but officials told Eyewitness News that, "At the present time, they have no plans to build in Orlando."

Another contender is Herschend Family Entertainment, which runs parks like Dollywood.

Cedar Fair Entertainment is another possible player, which runs Cedar Point and Knott’s Berry Farm. Neither of those park officials responded to our requests for comment.

Eyewitness News asked if Orlando can handle another theme park.

Fun Spot America, which thrives on locals, said there's plenty of pie and that they're happy to see something pumping more life into this side of I-Drive.

"I-Drive is really developing into its own destination, and this just hits home and will bring in more people to the area,” Hummer said.
