Third profanity-laced court appearance by accused killer Markeith Loyd

ORLANDO, Fla. — Accused killer Markeith Loyd faced a judge for the third time Wednesday on an additional charge of resisting arrest without violence in connection with the death of Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton.

But Loyd did not hold back his emotions, just as he didn’t the last two times he was in court.

“I’m here for what? Resisting arrest? Is that what happened to me? (Expletive) you, man, (expletive) you,” Loyd said.

“Have a good day, sir,” the judge replied.

The judge set Loyd's bail at $500.

Loyd, 41, won't be bonding out since another judge set no bond for two first-degree murder counts.

Loyd is accused of killing Sade Dixon, his pregnant ex-girlfriend, in December and Clayton on Jan. 9, outside a Pine Hills-area Walmart.

On top of the charges he's facing in Dixon's and Clayton’s deaths, Loyd was charged with resisting arrest without violence.

Loyd was previously charged with murder of a law enforcement officer, attempted first-degree murder with a firearm of a law enforcement officer, armed carjacking, wearing a bulletproof vest while committing a felony and aggravated assault.

Charges had already been filed against Loyd in Dixon's death when he was caught Jan. 17 after a month-long manhunt and was not charged with Clayton's death until Jan. 19.

Loyd, who said he'll be representing himself at trial, previously had contentious court appearances. Last week, he went on a rant for several minutes, saying he was defending himself when Dixon was fatally shot.

“Y’all just making [expletive] up,” he said. “You’re acting like I just went down there and shot this girl.”

Loyd continued even after the judge warned him that everything he was saying was on the record.

After weeks on the run, Loyd was arrested in an abandoned home in Orlando.

His arrest came more than a week after he allegedly shot and killed Clayton execution-style outside the Pine Hills-area Walmart.

Orlando police Chief John Mina said that the reason officers used force on Loyd was because he resisted his arrest.

According to a police complaint, officers ordered Loyd to place his hands behind his back, but he didn’t. Police said he threw a gun out of one of the home’s windows.

Shortly after Loyd's arrest, police released aerial footage that appears to show Loyd being kicked by at least two officers.

Loyd is set to appear before a judge again Thursday to determine if he can represent himself at trial.

Channel 9 legal analyst Bill Schaefer said the judge will likely order a psychological examination of Loyd before allowing him to represent himself.

In the meantime, the judge will probably appoint a stand-by attorney, Schaefer said.

"You always appoint a stand-by counsel," he said. "You would be surprised how many defendants that say, 'I want to represent myself,' then in the middle of the proceedings they realize that they are not educated in the area of law."
