Titusville man accused of molesting child 8 days after being accused of similar crime

A man was arrested on charges of sexual battery of a child, eight days after being released from jail on a similar charge, detectives said.
Wilbert Sailor, 66, was arrested Monday on a charge of lewd and lascivious battery on a child under 12 years old.
Sailor had been released from jail on Sept. 22 when he was found incompetent to stand trial on three counts of lewd and lascivious conduct involving a child.

He was accused of molesting another child eight days later.
Sailor’s neighbors on Elizabeth Avenue were in disbelief.
“That’s crazy. My boyfriend told me he just went to jail. I didn’t believe it. He just got out,” said Candice Winn.
Neighbors said Sailor hadn’t returned to his home because there was no power or running water.
Police said that’s why he was staying at another home, where the child claims he touched her inappropriately.
“The mother of the victim called us and reported the incident, and he was subsequently arrested right after that,” said Amy Matthews of the Titusville Police Department.
Sailor also had a case from 2011 that was dismissed. He was found incompetent to stand trial and state experts said there was substantial likelihood that the defendant’s competency to proceed with trial will not be restored.
Any potential competency issue in the latest case will be something for the court to address.
“Of course our detectives are following up on every investigative lead, making sure they have a very thorough case on this man,” said Matthews.
Sailor is being held in the Brevard County Jail on a $35,000 bond.
